This is a great list and more of this sort of thing is required for ubuntu virgins like me. I’m trying to go OSS only on my new machine and keep running into obstacles. Examples - can’t get dual monitors working; logitech webcam video and audio work on skype but not on seesmic or any other web platform because I can’t choose the webcam mic. Installing software that downloads into archive manager is a mystery to me. Would love a post on this as it is the biggest turn off so far.

Giridhar, you need to configure Ubuntu to work with the router, copy the settings from windows into Ubuntu, in Ubuntu, internet can be configured from System > Administration > Network.

To make windows boot by default, in Ubuntu open Applications > Accessories > Terminal. Type in this and press enter after every line
cd /boot/grub
sudo gedit menu.lst
(Now you must type in your password)
Change the line with default 0
to default 4

The number may vary though to check if it is correct, count every title after ## ## End Default Options ## and subtract 1 from it and put it after default.
save and quit.

i am new to ubuntu. recently installed ubuntu and leady having winxp.i have following problems. can you kindly show answer or links.
1.unable to connect to internet broadband with dsl rooter.
2.ubuntu has become the 1st boot but i want winxp.
